NDF Awards 2017

This year we had the opportunity to continue our series of awards for the Northern Design Festival.

The theme of the festival was ‘Material Matters’ which inspired our concept for the awards which marries two visually contrasting and seemingly incompatible materials: Electric pink silicone with the lowest shore hardness available (to make it super-floppy) and the ironic symbol of opulence Carrera marble.

The silicon parts were made by creating a laser-cut acrylic positive master, from which we produced a negative former.

The marble was laser engraved with the subtle 2017 detail on the bottom.

The resulting awards were extremely tactile and surprising to the touch, and despite their deliberately over-the-top impression they maintained a contemporary and sleek aesthetic.
