Flint

With ToyStudio for Norwich Art Centre in London

Commissioned by Norfolk County Council, Flint is a collection of mirrored totems designed by ToyStudio and the first of five installations part of the Norfolk Way Art Trail an ambitious cultural initiative celebrating the rich history, landscape, and creativity of the region.

Inspired by the heritage of Norwich, Flint draws from the textures and stories of the city, particularly the flint walls that characterise many of its historic buildings. This reference is brought to life through the totems’ folded aluminium structures which are clad in mirror-polished panels to reflect and interact with the surrounding environment in real time. By day, the installation captures the Norfolk skies, trees, and people passing by. By night, integrated lighting transforms each piece into a contemporary infinity mirror that offers a sense of depth, mystery, and timelessness.

The surface design was developed in collaboration with local community groups and brought to life by local illustrator @ellenharlingillustration. These visuals serve as a storytelling layer, drawing connections between the past and present.

We were proud to manufacture Flint in close collaboration with ToyStudio and the wider team. Our role in bringing Flint to life was to ensure that the design vision was translated into a durable, high-quality, and impactful installation.
