Unravel
We partnered with the Barbican Art Gallery and Studio Donna van Milligen Bielke & Ars de Vries Architecten on Unravel, an impactful exhibition exploring the social and political narratives woven into textile art. Our role in this high-profile project involved overseeing the full build and decoration package, coordinating off-site production, and managing the complex logistics of transport and delivery schedules.
Collaborating with the Barbican team, we developed display solutions tailored to each of the 50 artists’ works, creating a seamless experience across the gallery. Our team incorporated fittings and humidity controls to meet the conservation requirements for textiles, all while ensuring that our installation was both visually cohesive and respectful of the works’ integrity. All vitrines and showcases were produced to the appropriate GIS standards, as well as materials being subject to independent Oddy and SIFT MS testing where necessary. Prozorb cartridges were also incorporated into the internal carcassing.
Working within a tight schedule, we implemented detailed planning and close communication with stakeholders to anticipate and resolve challenges efficiently. This approach allowed us to maintain high standards of craftsmanship and installation quality without compromising deadlines, ensuring that every piece was displayed to its best effect within the demanding timeframe.
We managed a rigorous off-site production schedule to fabricate display elements and structural components, enabling precision and a streamlined installation on-site. This included working with AV installations to ensure high-quality multimedia displays. The logistical demands of Unravel required us to coordinate closely with the Barbican team to manage artist specifications, transport, and delivery, ensuring smooth and timely assembly.
